Origin: Southwestern United States
Characteristics: Washingtonia (W. robusta and W. filifera) have palmate leaves. The tallest palm in the garden is a W. filifera. Its trunk is more columnar than that of W. robusta, which resembles an elephant’s leg, smooth and grey.
Flowering period: Washingtonia produces hermaphroditic flowers.
